Another Year Gone By, A Decade Gone

Dec 31, 2009 18:32

It doesn't feel like the end of the year. Not really. And I kind of dreaded writing this post, because as I think back over 2009, I can't think of anything worth mentioning that I accomplished. All the big stuff? Happened last year ( Read more... )

That weight loss is a huge deal, and much kudos and congratulations to you for that. I can't even imagine losing 36lbs; I have a hard time losing 10.

11 years together is worth a celebration, too. Certainly bigger than anything you could count in the past year!

Thanks. :)

I think if I'd set out to actually lose weight, I would've failed. I mean, it wasn't an unconscious decision by any means: it was something my husband and I decided to do together. But if I'd made a big production out of it and told EVERYONE that's what I was doing? Too much pressure. I would've cracked. :-/

Congrats on the weight loss; I'm impressed. I think it's hard to force the passion for writing; maybe taking some of the pressure off as far as having strict goals will help.

Thanks!

I go back and forth on goals. Sometimes I think small, manageable goals are what I need. Other times, I think I just need to DO and get into some kind of habit before I make any such goals, you know?

It's always a work in progress, this life thing. It looks like more goods than bads on this list here, so *lifts cup* -- here's to a good new year. :)

Back in August, I had dinner with an acquaintance of mine who like me is a local aspiring fantasy writer here in Atlanta. She lamented to me what a terrible case of writer's block she'd had for months, and how she'd lost her muse and feared she'd never get it back.

I ran into her again three months later at a couple of NaNoWriMo events; she not only won NaNo, but she did it with a 10K margin. Things change quickly!

But if you figure out the trick of writing good fiction when you really don't want to be writing, could you tell it to me? I've been trying to figure out that one for years

I'm curious: how does one WIN NaNo? Is it meeting the 50K goal, or something else?

If I discover something, I'll be sure to let you know!

You win NaNo by meeting the 50K goal or exceeding it. I've never come anywhere close.

You've done better than me, because I've never even participated. :)
