Year in Review: 2009

It's been a quiet year for movies, because Greg and I upgraded our DirecTV to the HD/DVR receiver, which allowed us to watch movies in HD on PPV, which was AWESOME. For the movies we weren't really sure about, or the movies that one of us wanted to see and the other didn't, it was a perfect solution, as the HD PPV version is essentially the cost of ( Read more... )

I agree on Star trek but would have put District 9 in the great list for me after that film ended I felt like I had been through an emotional rollercoaster I was that involved with the story by the end (but I didn't see Up or Moon - adding them to the to be watched list). How bad was Transfromers? I was really disappointed with this as I had really enjoyed the first film and loved transformers cartoon as a child.

What was GI Joe like? I have heard good reviews but am still hesitating about adding it to my quickflix queue.

Did you like Stardust? It is a favourite of mine and I think an excellent how to make a book into a film example without being overly faithful or losing the essence of the story.

The ending of DISTRICT 9 was fabulous, but the racism of the movie really bugged me. Same with AVATAR.

TRANSFORMERS had a HORRIBLE story. We'd heard horrible reviews going in and laughed them off, you know? Because TRANSFORMERS is all about action and fun, but this one wasn't NEAR as fun, the story just didn't work, and the heightened sexuality and profanity took away from the movie. I'm not a prude, far from it, but even I recognize when that stuff isn't necessary. Again, NOT ENOUGH BUMBLEBEE. :( It's worth renting, but just know it's not as fun as the first.

We went into GI JOE with very low expectations and it ended up being a fun movie to watch. You should be fine. :)

We loved STARDUST. I told my husband it's the PRINCESS BRIDE of this decade. When we see it on tv, we end up stopping to watch. :)

So next transformers movie should just be Transformers 3: Bumblebee...but it would take a lot of convincing for me to pay to see it in the cinema as no 2 was such a disappointment. (I heard the same reviews for transformers 2 and also laughed them off as people taking the movie too seriously but no that was not the case :-
:-(.).
