It's been FOREVER since I posted anything of substenance, and for that, I apologize. I just read, read, read all the time, so between the two blogs, it's calico_reaction that gets the attention, not devilwritesBut let's talk tv, because that's the OTHER thing I do all of the time. Dramas first, because oddly, I watch fewer dramas than comedies (at least, that's what it ( Read more... )

I've been watching Caprica - and yes, it appears to be a slow build, but has the potential to be, I think *very* good - but I never got into BSG, so I have no expectations - I think I'm lucky in that sense - if I really tune into this show, I'll probably end up getting into BSG at some point as well.

i really don't mind the slow build. I just have fears built into me from BSG, which keeps me from fully falling in love. That said, BSG--on the whole--was very, very good.

Flashforward took awhile, but it finally grabbed me. That said, I'm actually hoping that it gives us a good finish in one season and then completes. The premise doesn't seem to be strong enough to sustain a long-running series. (Then again, I've been wrong before. Who knew that Heroes only had one good season in it?)

Haven't seen any of Caprica yet; I keep meaning to fix this.

I agree with you completely about V. I like the actors; I've enjoyed the four episodes they've aired, but it's missing something--like it's too on-the-nose.

As for Stargate Universe, I eventually did watch the episodes that had been piling up on my DVR, but I'd actually forgotten about it completely until you mentioned it. BSG had great villains and some fascinating mysteries, plus protagonists who were flawed but interesting in their flaws. They use the plot device of the Ancient communication stones way too much, simply because the ( ... )

The episode that happens AFTER the last episode of SGU features those stones, and I read about that episode and I have a HUGE problem with it: people trade bodies and use their not-body in any way they please, without any consideration for the person who has to live in it normally. Maybe I'm missing something, but that bugs the hell out of me. :-/

I am really looking forward to Caprica. I was a big fan of BSG but haven't been able to bring myself to watch the last half of Season 4 because I didn't want it to end. I can forsee that I will HAVE to do this at the end of semester when my essays are due.

I have only seen a few episodes of Fringe but it intrigued me. It feels a little early Xfile-ish to me (which is not a bad thing) but that impression may change when I watch more.

The show has definitely grown and gotten better since it started. The key is the cast, and mid-way through season one, when you meet Olivia's family, things really start to click. :)
