Saw that video. I guess, the real solution is stay-at-home dads who do manly work at home, as repairing things and renovating rooms, showing boys what a real man does, and not being absent. They don't earn much money, but luxury is unmanly, isn't it?
(Oh, and as you can't repair things all the time, they can also cook and clean.)
Oh, and concerning boy-men: I am busy reading "the decision to use the atomic bomb" by Gar Alperovitz, and I am shocked by the boyish language of Truman in his more private correspondence. Like: "We showed it those Russians!" (and worse.) I wonder whether it's a translation issue, but I don't think so.
You know, I don't think it was a translation issue either. If I remember my history right, I think Truman or some other individual were thinking the atomic bomb as a way to one-up the Russians, even during war time.
Well, the book I am reading makes a stance that the atomic bomb was mainly against Russia, to show them who's strongest, and to gain diplomatic advantage after WWII, when it was not yet clear that there would be a division of Europe into two halves. The author meticulously checks the evidence, explaining that not only in hindsight, but also when it was used, there were two clear alternatives to using the bomb, explaining what the US meant when they said "unconditional surrender" (e.g. not that the emperor was going to be put to trial as a war criminal), and waiting for the effects of a Russian declaration of war
( ... )
LOL don't be too ashamed. I come from a state whose school that not only stops a girl from taking her girlfriend to a date, but also set up two proms - the one she was "invited" too and the other one where most of the parents set up in secret.
