In which I ramble about houses

I have so many thoughts going through my brain right now...and I think I've figured out projects to snap me out of my un-motivated-ness...
I talked at length with my dad yesterday about buying the house across the street from them.  The cool thing is, the house is valued at $267 K.  The land it's on, however, is valued at $270K.  So if there was a ( Read more... )

Drywall's really not that bad to do yourself... I ended up doing half the basement on our house.

Agreed on how permits and regulations are a pain in the ass. I haven't even been able to get help figuring out how to pay business taxes for my LLC, and you'd think that's something they'd be motivated to help with.

i honestly think they try to make it as difficult as possible to discourage homeowners from doing anything themselves. it might be a conspirace between the utilites and the contractors...maybe your conspiracy is between the accountants and the IRS...make it as hard as possible so you'll give up and hire an accountant...

sounds like a lot of fun and enough stuff to keep your brain occupied and working towards total health! :)

One thing I really enjoyed (though we had to move for this to happen) was to actually get rid of the clutter. I didn't think I could get rid of some of the things b/c I felt they were too sentimental. Now that they are gone I am happy to keep them as memories-- things like vases someone game me or such, mostly things with little stories here and there. You could even go as far as putting blankets out on the lawn and looking at everything individually rather than a whole in the room you are trying to de-clutter. I watched this TLC show a while ago about de-clutter, I can't remember the name of it, but it is always on? It was inspiring to see other people let go of clutter that they originally wanted to keep.

I can't wait to see pics. :)

oh that's a great idea! before and after pictures of the rooms and the yard...i hadn't thought of that...i'll do that. :) and i have so much stuff, i probably could get rid of most of it...i just hate to throw things away that could be useful to someone else...guess i'll amass all my stuff then donate it to the next "truck in the area". ;)

yeah, I had the same reasons for not getting rid of stuff. It is a valid reason, but I could never find the balance. :)

Also there are a lot of places like: Community Services for the Blind that will come to your house and pick up anything and everything.... except for large appliances. It is a tax write off too :)
