Interesting perspective

I've been having an interesting interaction with my cousin on Facebook regarding our new administration. sort of.  He's very much a republican, and I'm very much a bleeding heart liberal, so we usually have interesting discussions.  This one is short, but I'm curious as to your take on it. Do you agree with him? with me? neither? it's an ( Read more... )

this particular leader was never actually elected in the first place. Or the second.

But I digress.

You both have valid points of view. As your cousin (and Obama) points out, the government is not the country. The government merely controls the country. (That's what "government" means.) So long as the government acts in a way that reflects the will of the people (as ours is supposed to), then the government is representative of the people, and of the country. interesting points...out of curiosity, and perhaps to play devils advocate, what *could* we have done to remove W? i think it took 8 years for *most* of the US to realize that he just wasn't fit to be the president. but still, about half the country voted for him. TWICE.

All good points. yeah, the extent that I "did" anything is not voting for him or anyone who supported him. Realistically, that was all I was willing to do, while i watched the people in power continue to make foolish decisions.

I still think that even though I didn't *do* anything to remove him from power, i can be ashamed of what my country is doing.
