How vampires have fallen....

So there was a time I used to be fascinated by vampies. Like many others I found them interesting, I liked the way they seemed both human and monster.  They were like a link between the living and dead, but not zombie like. They're our insight into the after-life. At least they used to be all these things.

My first journey into the vampire world was ( Read more... )

Ohh thank you for the comment, yes she will always be the true vampire queen to me. :)

I have noticed that and that is why I have given up on urban fantasy/ YA novels. I just got sick of the annoying sexy vampire males who seem like self inserts for male covers of vogue.

I did see 'marked' but never picked it up. As soon as Twihards started to recommend it I stayed away like the plague. I knew it had to be very much the same for all twi fans to love it. From what you said, it sounds awful. I don't get why they bother to make the guys vampires. Why not just make them sexy humans? Oh right vampires are sexy right now.

Oh I do hope you do that! Really need to give vampires back their true name. Have you read Sunshine? That is a good vampire book (one of the very few without human vamps in it).
If your a true Anne Rice fan (from the sound of it you 'got' the message in her books aswell) you will make true vampire classics. :)

I read Marked just to see how bad it was. It was hilariously bad at first, then it became unbearably bad and I put it away just as I was halfway through. I could NOT handle what happened anymore. I sympathize with you; I also gave up on YA. Except I will never give up on John Marsden or Alex Sanchez. They are brilliant YA authors. I definitely recommend them.

I heard of Sunshine. In fact, that book is following me around, I swear. First I see it at a store, then it's at our school library, then one of my favourite people Neil Gaiman has praised it. And now you've brought it up lol. It's plotting to make me read it I tell you. Fine then Sunshine, I give in, I'll read you after Going Bovine... you win...

I do like being up bad books just to see how funny they can be. Maybe I will get marked out of the libary if I can stomach it.:/

Oh I have not read either John Marsden or Alex, I shall give them a try. There are some good YA books out there. Just not as many compared to the crap they're shipping out now.

Ohh seeeee lol, the world is trying to tell you to read it lol. I had no idea Neil praised it...But it is a good book. It's got real vampires in, and I don't remember there being any romance in it. It's about a girl who works at pastry-making shop who gets kidnapped by a group of vampires, they shackle her up and lock her away.

The cover art was what caught my eye (yes I know the cover can be misleading). I also had heard about it from others saying it was a good vampire book.

Hope you read and enjoy it. ^^

I love you for posting this, i am so disappointed with Twilight, the popularity and the complete washout of vampires and vampire 'lore'. It's so incredibly disappointing that people think that 'this' is what vampires are because of Meyer's awful depiction.

I hear you there :(, I really never saw sparkle vampires coming...She did surprise me lol.

What is worse is the fact people just buy it. Like they never read any vampire classics, now it's some fad.

I have seen alot of new books where I wonder why they never just made super special-rich-hot- human boys, why use a vampire? Maybe just to make them more emo? Or just to have that horror effect.

Now vampires are not scary, they're sexy. It's funny because in the Lestat books they make fun of the fans, making them vampire groupies who think vampires are innocent goths.

Exactly, that's the thing, modern vampires are no longer scary, they're no longer 'monsters' and the carbon copies of Twilight all follow the same weak formula Meyer set, i get depressed walking into my book store now :P

Gosh I know....If I see one more Twilight poster! Along with a bunch of new 'Twilight' clone books, I will scream. They're everywhere now! At least we have movies like I am Legend, 30 days of night, to give vampires back some of their appeal.

I keep saying it's like having a tall dwarf, or a cyclops with one eye. See how much sense that makes? No.... :/
