What the hail!

How many of you have ever heard of a hail cannon? I had never heard of one until I started traveling to Armenia, and now I find myself having to stumble through awkward explanations of what one is every time we drive past the ONE hail cannon in the whole region because somebody always sees it and calls out, "what's that crazy looking metal thing

Sounds like it comes from the same part of the brain that has South Koreans convinced that if they sleep with an electric fan running it will suffocate them because it "breaks up the air."
