A mere two days ago, Fergus turned me on to this website called The Retroscope. It's an addictive site full of photo sets from the past on just about every subject imaginable. I browsed through a few sets, including these totally awesome pictures of a young Barack Obama, and concluded that this is definitely my kind of stuff ( Read more... )

Thanks, Dennis! All is well - I feel like I really hit my stride this year in terms of professional and personal adjustment here. It's not over yet, but I'm starting to enjoy the ride a bit more. :)

That's wonderful news! I'm so happy for you!

I'm mostly hanging in there. Even though I'm a native Nebraskan, I've still been having some re-adjustment issues too. Bigger town that's not so intimate. More conservative politics.

Having to rebuild networks and getting new friends. Re-calibrating and tweaking the whole work scene. Weather challenges. It's always something. It's certainly still a work-in-progress. ;)

But my family is doing pretty well and I do enjoy being able to visit them without having to fly in on a planet killer a couple times a year.

Yeah! I had a similar experience a few years ago when I randomly ended up on a Flickr stream I watch called Seattle Daily Photo. It's a completely ordinary picture and you can't see much of my face, but I still felt like a star for being part of the action!

Ha! That first picture's girl's hair is feathered perfectly! And those shorts! Hee hee! Can't wait to find out if that's your family - I also wonder how these people got the picture - arcade owners, maybe?

(P.S. - my icon is from 1980 - sadly, I never did the feather thing. :) )

I know, the shorts! I used to have a pair of shorts like that and I wore them as pajama bottoms.

I'm thinking about asking the site where the pictures were taken, as I'm sure they know and it looks to me like all but one of them were taken at the same arcade, maybe.

Your icon is great, even if you don't have feathers! :)
