holy cats...

I'm new to teaching, and frankly, I never imagined it would be something I could be good at or had the right disposition for.

I received the following unsolicited email from one of my students this weekend:

I have no doubt that for many of your students, you are the best teacher they ever had. And even if they don't continue with printmaking, the confidence and critical faculties you encourage in them will have positive effects in their lives.

What a sweet letter. You are a great teacher. You taught me Flash and I think we listened to the Scorpions while class was in session. How great is that?

The most important thing is enthusiasm. Students pick up in your passion, and will excuse any variety of sins.

THe ones we suffer through are the ones who lose that enthusiasm. Some do, many don't. But emails like the one you received is one of the best things about teaching. Enjoy it!
