I'll see it again.

Wow, it's been a long time since I typed in this little box. I don't have much to say at the moment, either.

...except that I saw the pre-screening of Star Trek! It was as much fun as I hoped it would be. I bounced the whole way through the movie - except for the parts where I cried. (For those of you who might not have guessed, I'm a bit of a sap ( Read more... )

That's encouraging :) Are you a fan of TOS or TNG or DS9 or what?

I'm a big fan of TOS and TNG. My extended family would watch TNG together when I was a kid, usually during big family events like Thanksgiving and Easter. :) Even better, these family screenings were often accompanied my father's reminiscences of the good old days, when he could lock his sisters in the basement and watch Star Trek in peace. I caught the occasional episode of TOS during childhood as well, but I didn't really watch it until I was 20, when I discovered that the Spike channel was really just 24/7 TOS.

I imagine I would like DS9 as well, but I never saw more then 1 or 2 episodes. DS9 came out during my "if it's not a book, it's not worth my time" phase, so I barely even gave it a thought. Voyager came out when I was starting high school and I barely had time to eat in those days. Ergo, new TV series did not make it into my schedule.

This is even more encouraging, since I grew up watching TNG with my mom and brother. I've only seen like ten episodes of TOS, but I've enjoyed them and would like to see more (they appeal to my love of 60's sci fi). Chris and I are currently working our way through DS9 and I'm fucking LOVING it (both of us were too young to be interested by it back in the day). I gave Voyager a chance FOR THREE SEASONS before giving up and I've seen the entire first season of Enterprise (which I actually enjoyed at the time).

In short, I think DS9 is the most well-done Trek, but TNG will always be my favorite for sentimental reasons. Also, as much as I dig TOS, I have a hard time putting it in the same category as the rest cuz it's just so different from the Trek I grew up on. In any case, it sounds like we're on a similar enough page that I might actually dig this new Star Trek movie, which is good cuz the previews have made look AWFUL.
