That's a fun area to work. I loved working downtown.

I live in the NE and love it.
If I didn't live where I am now I think I'd like to live between SE Belmont & SE Burnside.

Inner SE is definitely where I'd most like to live, it's just a matter of finding something.

I have free rent on a big house in Beaverton for at least a month (most likely longer; basically just until it sells) so hopefully since I'm flexible on time I'll be able to find something in a good neighborhood.

NW or SE, what attributes are you looking for in a neighborhood?

I like the east side better because most of my fav restaurants/shops are over there, plus it's easier to bike and stuff. But I'm prioritizing a nice apartment over location for the most part, I'd prefer to be in an older building with nice lighting, details, hardwood floors, etc., for under $1,000/mo. It seems like there are quite a few in NW.

Where are you exactly? I haven't been to your new place yet!

Those were going to be exactly my points. Better selection of restaurants and shopping in SE, but I think the apartments are better over here. And NW is very walkable.

We're at 18th and Couch, you should come over some time!

Basically. Will you be around tomorrow evening? I'd like to check out your place. I'll be in Portland tomorrow afternoon/evening and then I'll be gone Saturday-Wednesday to visit family. And then the next weekend I'll be moving and then that Monday I start work! AGH! REAL LIFE!

Move in next to the mini-mall.

My ideal tbh, but it's hard to find apartments around there!

By the way, I was hoping to get a CAD refresher from you before I start, perhaps in exchange for some tasty vegan foods? Portobello? Mulvanny said they're like 70% Revit, but I still feel like I should be more up to date with CAD than I am before I start. Plus I remember we discussed that whoever got a job first should buy the other dinner, so I think we should go to Natural Selection or w/e as soon as I actually get paid in a month or however long.

Also, I heard that Group MacKenzie is looking to hire soon. I know Terry there a little bit, I've met with him a few times. And I have another contact there who is higher up... I can get emails for you if you want. You should definitely contact them (although I'll be jealous if you get it, 'cause I'd way rather work there).

PS My new house in Beaverton is a quick bus ride to yours! It's really close to the bus, the commute to Portland is under an hour. So hopefully it won't be too bad living in Beaverton :/

Woot woot! We'll be practically neighbors. You should just not move to Portland until we do. (Maybe in 1 year if I ever get a job, but to be honest, we really like this apartment and it'll be hard to find something comparable for so cheap in PDX!)

The Group MacKenzie thing sounds pretty ideal, I must say. The only reason I haven't already sent stuff there is because I don't have any good contacts (and I'm a WIMP). I was thinking of sending something to the guy we met at the Portfolio JAM last week but he didn't really get a chance to look at my portfolio, so I dunno if he'd even remember me!

My dad had told one of the principals that I would contact him, so I'm going to send him an email with my resume saying that I am still interested in their firm, but have another job offer that I'll probably take and hope they'll keep me in mind for the future or w/e. Do you want me to mention that I have a friend who is talented and looking and will be sending her stuff in? Is your stuff all ready to go if I do that?

Inner SE/Sellwood is pretty nice. It depends on how much you want to pay, and if you want an apartment or a house share. I guess it depends on what your top priorities are. Cultural neighborhood? Short commute? Shopping? Affordability?

I'd prefer to live in SE (not quite as south as Sellwood) for under $1,000. Probably looking to live by myself in a studio/1 br.

Well, anywhere between Division and Burnside, west of Ceaser Chavez should be awesome. There are some cute apartments there. And a studio or 1-bedroom should be within that price range. Plus, you'd practically be able to walk to work. Not that you'd necessarily want to in two months, but you know, the option is there, haha.

That's the area I for sure want, although I'm not finding a lot :( I found a few I'm calling on.

Definitely thinking about that area. I hate that it's mostly chain stores/restaurants around there, though :( I feel like all the good independent places are on the east side.

When are you moving?

There's cool shit, I shouldn't say that, it's just less interesting to me than the east side. All of Portland is pretty nice, though.

That's pretty soon! Good luck on the move!
