Hey Dad … Remember that band that you said I was always wasting my time and money on? Remember that dude who’s name you always made fun of? Those concerts (back-to-back) you tried to tell me I couldn’t go to? Yeah, well - anyway.

I don't mind his charity work, but I don't like U2. I never have, and I never will. In fact (ask Logan), U2 is one of those rare bands that I actually hate, and get all angry inside when I see him (along with Reese Witherspoon). He's done great work, and that's fine. I just think his music is just boo.

He'll do more than I ever will, so I never comment on that. Music wise though, I give it two thumbs down.

why's he gotta be all surly-smurf in this pic?

i liked U2 as a band in the 80s and early 90s (not so much after the whole mega-pop stuff), but I admire the hell out of Bono. I think it's a good award to recognize his efforts.

Hate to rain on the Bono parade.... tireregroover December 19 2005, 15:53:15 UTC
But a couple of counterpunch articles from this year are thought provoking. BTW: Dennis Brutus is a former South African Prisoner of Conscience that spoke at one of the Amnesty International Annual General Meetings that I attended back in the 80s. He was in prison for a while with Nelson Mandela and knows a thing or two about Human Rights.

I think Bono genuinely means well and wants to help the poor and has done so. But other folks doing so may have legitimate concerns as in the articles cited above. Your mileage may vary.
