With regard to #1, cross-browser compatibility is very temperamental with the positioning of the nav bar. I had it to-the-pixel in line with the right edge, but on some version of IE, it kicks the right part down to the next line and faffs the whole thing up.
With #4, I kind of like the icon how it is. Look at digg's icon, it's about the same size, and it doesn't have any problems getting by. Basically, I want this to work on a Netbook screen, and thus don't want to make any element larger than it needs to be.
As for the other points, this isn't design complete yet, I imagine the final product will be very different. Thanks for your input though, I will look at the links you mentioned.
