The bad news is, '9 to 5' played at the midnight movies in Dallas a couple weeks ago and I MISSED IT. This would have been the perfect kick-off for the 9 to 5 slumber party I've always wanted to host. Even if logic tells me that most Dallas types are too stuffy for such madcap adventures in high fashion, I like to imagine that the audience was a

Please post a review of the Carol Channing CD when it arrives!
Wifey looks hilarious (uh, not the assassination of the president stuff, but that first excerpt). I've GOT to read it. I wish I could recommend some titles to you, but I've been a real lazybones about reading real live books lately--lately it's all comics and magazines for me.

Also, after reading Wifey, you will never think of middle-aged men riding motorcycles the same way again. (The Desperate Living motorcycle cop is an excellent comparison!)

If they ever make a movie of WIFEY (I can't imagine why they would, but if they DID), they need to use "You Will Never Think of Middle-Aged Men Riding Motorcycles the Same Way Again" as a tagline on the posters.

I've heard snippets of the Jazz Baby album -- it used to be available for MP3 download (if you can believe it!) but I never trusted that for some reason; I wanted the real deal. Still, I listened to the 30 sec clips.
Just imagine Carol belting out, "IF you WANT my COMPANY! YOU can't FIFTY-FIFTY ME! You gotta KISS mama EVERY NIGHT! or she won't be home when you ca-a-allll."

1. I love your Millie icon.
2. When I read that first excerpt from WIFEY about the guy with the motorcycle helment, I thought of the perverted motorcycle cop in Desperate Living: "that was real SOUL KISS!"

I especially like how Sandy Pressman's five-year-old daughter speaks like a drunken sailor. And don't you think she captured the general vibe of life in a 1970s suburb perfectly? I don't know if she ever mentions the location of Plainfield/Watchung, but I'm picturing suburban California. Like... Downey, hometown of the Carpenters.

I have not been reading much *fiction* these days but if you are in the mood may I suggest Midnight at The Palace: My Life as a Fabulous Cockette by Pam Tent. It is to diiiie for.

I will think of you when I catch the movie! Have you ever heard Bette Davis's proposed theme song for the film? I have the 45 and can burn it to a disc for you if you'd like to hear it. (I could probably even email it -- not sure, never tried, but it might work.)

Thanks for the offer to e-mail a copy of Miss D's "Jane" song (if it's no trouble, of course). My e-mail is: dorothykfan@yahoo.ca
Oh, love the '70's friends of Barbie icon!

Debbie Burton sings the first half, then Bette comes in near the end: "HERE'S what happened to Baby Jane!" It's a song you can twist to.
I'm crazy about your new icon, too!

You write funny, witty things on Anna Claire's LJ, so I took a look at yours, and lo-and-behold -- clever, charming and witty! I'm glad you're on my friends list now. I like your flow.
