Hehehehe, marigolds are one of my most favorite flowers. I'm one of those weirdo's that like the smell too. XD
Pinch off the flowers often when they start to die to ensure a constant bloom. And collect the seeds from the spent blossoms and replant them in the container and they'll regrow next year! [I always wintersow my marigolds... it's too easy. XD]

Everything sounds like it's doing awesome! Except de-grassing... god that's the worst part... ><;;

And you can do SO MUCH with a shade garden. Mint is an herb that doesn't mind the shade - it won't bloom but that means it won't spread... just make sure to NOT plant it in the ground - an elevated pot that way it has no way to make contact w/ the ground... don't make the mistake I did.
And there are many good ornamentals that look great in a shade garden; ferns, hosta, astilbe, bleeding heart, sweet woodruff, coral bells, and hydrangea's. ♥

sweet holy balls de grassing is painful.... haha. God I hate it... hahaha

and I shall look into that for the shade! I know I went and bought moon flower seeds to plant next spring, since they tend to bloom at night~ and I definitely want mint for my tea... hahaha. xD;

Moonflowers are great! Although, they require a long growing season to be prolific, and prefer being in really sunny spots. So plan accordingly! Moonflower flower's can be almost a foot across... the ones I have are budding up right now - I cannot wait for a bloom!
Most of my flowers I grow are night-blooming... mainly because I don't SEE my garden in the morning! Hahaha. Look into 4'o'clocks [Mirabilis japonica] as well, they bloom... after 4. But the smell is like a musky jasmine. It really sweetens up the summer night!
