paestum is the site of the largest intact greek temples outside of greece. the most famous one, the top part of which is pictured below, is now known as the temple of apollo (though i still think of it as the temple of hera, which is what i was taught in my history of architecture I textbook).

i couldn't believe how green it was - the rest of the site was mostly brown with little patches of grass here and there.

in case you ever want to plan a trip, paestum is a nice beach town too - and less expensive to stay in than some of the more famous cities in italy.

i so want to go to spain one day too. i was just reading about the desert area where they filmed all those spaghetti westerns. i wish i had time in september to see more places. maybe i should just quit my job and become a travelling vagabond :)

These are beautiful. Doesn't architectural scale just spellbind you? The way pictures can never convey what you feel standing next to a structure?

i love these pictures. i love history so much that this is really neat to look at. when i was in sixth grade, i was really into greek mythology so this brings back happy memories.
