To be fair, it might have something to do with copyright law making very little goddamn sense at all.

But those unclear portions generally have to do with DMCA and electronic rights. The discussion I was having was about physically reproducing novels, and creating derivative works from them. Which is pretty cut and dry.

Just because ideas can't be copyrighted doesn't mean that someone won't sue. Most of these people are going for nuisance change.
