[At around nightfall in one large kitchen/dining room in the West wing, there is a party going on. A birthday party to be exact, judging by the giant Happy Birthday, Allen sign hanging across the door. Food of all kind is piled up high on every available countertop in case lots of Allens do show up ( Read more... )

[Don't mind her, she's just hovering inside the doorway in as an unassuming manner as possible and inspecting the large banner with a mildly bemused purse of her lips. Aren't Allens' birthdays normally in December?]

[A wash of recognition passes over her face at both people he points out, and a smile even begins to play up.]

Oh, so that's-- that's your roommate. Actually, I know... him... [And she trails off, leaning over a little and squinting to get a better look at the Allen. He's familiar. So are his golden eyes. It takes a second before everything clicks, and when it does, she looks even more perplexed.]

...He's a vampire again.

p-pardon that last bit of fail... selfdeluded June 28 2011, 07:36:30 UTC
[He blinks, expression falling into something politely confused, and his gaze shifts from the other vampire, to Lenalee, and back to the Allen once more.]

He got into some of the tea that makes you human a little while ago... did you meet him when he wasn't?

I... [Another hesitation, because touching on how she met him isn't the most pleasant topic.] No, I-- I met him in October, a few days after I arrived. He'd been. Starving himself.

[And then there was the half-dead Finder and all that jazz... She gives something of a strained smile and tries very 'subtly' to change the topic.] But I suppose that won't be an issue here. [Gestures at the veritable blood bank that is the centrepiece with a weak laugh.] --Good to finally know what you are, by the way.

[Since the bottles are labelled as for the birthday boy, and that's you... And now that she's got both vampire Allens to glance between, the similarities are glaringly obvious.]

Ah... [His expression falters a little at that, but he nods in what he hopes is an understanding way. That... hadn't been pleasant. Not at all. It was one of his more unfortunate memories..]

He's a lot better about eating regularly now... [But he pauses, before offering a slightly wider smile than he usually did around her - showing off the teeth for once.]

...I'm sorry. I didn't want to scare you. If I'd known you knew Allen... [He shakes his head.] He's family.

I don't see how letting me believe you were a Noah would be any less frightening than telling me the truth. [She gives him a slightly skeptical look, taking note of his fangs with practiced calm.] But I understand why you did.

...I don't talk to him much. We didn't exactly hit it off very well. [A 'what can you do?' sort of shrug.] So he's family? Your... [Ah, she thinks she understands now.] --You know, I think he told me about you, when he was human. He mentioned a brother.

I am sorry tricking you back then... But I wasn't sure how you'd react to toe truth in a setting like that.

[Pausing a little at the mention of a brother, though. In his case, he only had one brother; but in Allen's...] That may not have been me... I consider him a brother-- but even by our standards, I don't think we're actually brothers.

...The person that turned me would be his actual brother. A Lavi.

[Bluntly:] Most likely about the same.

[Another flicker of recognition, though this time a bit embarrassed; she really doesn't have the capacity to keep track of so many people.]

Oh. That's right... he did bring up a Lavi, too... [HOW MANY PEOPLE HERE ARE VAMPIRES she doesn't even know anymore.]

[Giving a wry smile.] I'm afraid I don't much understand the entire siring business.

[The way she puts a delicate stress on the word 'sire' is enough proof of that.]

Well-- it won't happen again. [Not like it could, really.. but it's the intent that counts.]

I'm not sure any of us really get it... [And his expression is a little sheepish at that.] Allen might... but my sire-- his didn't stick around after he turned... and mine wasn't around very much, either. But I know Allen and him were sired by the same person, so they're brothers.

...I had a brother like that, too.. but he's gone now.

[Talking to someone who has extreme abandonment issues, this is a v. v. disconcerting thing to hear. She tilts her head, a frown pulling at her lips and creasing her brow.] So they just... turn you and then leave?

[Not necessarily right away, but... eventually? Sounding appropriately perturbed:] That's unfair.

...You make it sound like it's a species thing. [A pause, and he grins.] It isn't, though... Allen told me that his sire stayed with him. He just didn't stay with my sire. [And he offers a slight, one-shouldered shrug. It wasn't a species thing. It was a people thing.

And well... most people were unfair.] Mr. Bitey did sort of stay with me... but I think because no one taught him, he didn't really know how to help me.

I didn't mean it as a species thing. [She can't explain it, though. The entire concept of vampirism seems pretty damn unfair to her, with or without sires that stick around. One eyebrow quirks a little at "Mr. Bitey".] But you turned out all right anyway. Right? ...And you do have a family now.

[It sounds like she's reassuring herself.]

[G-gesturing over at the person responsible for the party at the eyebrow raise. That name was his fault, okay. And he's been avoiding directly calling anyone but him Lavi lately... ]

...I like to think I did. [He thinks Lenalee would disagree if she knew, though.] I couldn't ask for a better family.

[She's never heard a nickname quite that unique before, it's an appropriate reaction! But she nods a little at the gesture. Ah. That makes a little more sense.] Family's important. I'm glad you have them.

[And she really, really means that, even if part of her feels a pang because... they only last so long as they're all here.]

Yeah... I am, too. But Allen isn't the only part of my family... [He lifts a hand - the left one, as always - and rubs the back of his neck, laughing in an almost embarrassed way.] It feels like it's gotten really big...

Are you sure there isn't anything I could get for you, though..? It doesn't have to be cake.

[Hey, she can understand that sentiment.] Probably because it has. That's how it works.

[And her smile switches from opening up to a bit chagrined. Doesn't exactly feel right for him to be offering her food. Shakes her head.] ...no, I'm fine. Really. You should save the food for your friends. It's your party; I just... wandered in on accident.
