[Allen's sitting outside in one of the fall courtyards, a few leaves in his hair. He's been out here for quite a while, long enough to have the fire in the firepit that he started to have crumbled down to glowing embers

[Allen will hear the sound of crisp leaves being crushed underfoot, followed by Lenalee quietly sitting down next to him. She doesn't say anything, and just picks a few leaves from where they've caught on his cloak. Removing them from his hair seems too forward of her.]
[Even still he doesn't lift his head or look at her, he knows it's Lenalee. The safe one. The one that's scared of him. Allen glances at her briefly when she picks the leaves out, then back at the fire.]
[Safer than usual, since she's taken to leaving her anklets in her room. She doesn't meet his gaze when he glances at her, and slowly moves her hands to her lap once she's done with the leaves. For a minute or so, she stares at the fire, too, then says quietly:] You're missing someone.
[It's that look. She's seen it too often on people's faces back home.]
[Allen laughs softly, a bit bitterly.] Is it that obvious? [He wipes at his face with his free hand, checking in a way for any tears but he hadn't smelled the salt.]
[When it does, she withdraws her hand again and rests it in her lap. Lavi... his brother- the one the other Allen mentioned, she imagines. Her smile twinges.] It's hard, isn't it? Being separated like that. It feels like you're forgetting everything you ever knew about about them, a little more with each day. And you think maybe you shouldn't miss them, because it's better if they aren't here, right? ...But you still do. I know. And it's okay to hurt about it.
[This is actually the angel this time, the one that he had invested his heart into and loved despite the fact that he might get smited at any time simply for being what he is.]
I just... I wish I weren't hurting anymore. [He can hear her own hurt rattling around.] I just want him back. My Lavi. [Toying with the white gold ring on his finger.]
[Glances sidelong at the ring, then parts her lips in a silent 'oh' of realization. So... not his brother. A different Lavi.
She brings her knees up to her chest and rests her chin on it, feeling suddenly far out of her depth and not at all qualified to give reassurances.] They never really leave.
[Allen pauses a moment then swings part of his cape out to drape around her, just to keep the chill off. His arm is gone from her shoulders soon after, shaking his head.]
His scent was gone, things that he brought into the cabin, little touches. Everything is gone.
[She stiffens a little at the cloak, surprised at the gesture- though it's only for a moment.]
No, not like that. I meant... they stay with you in your heart, don't they? Even after they leave... you still remember them. What they sounded like. How they looked. What they would say if you did something stupid and they were here to reprimand you. Right?
Don't be stupid. [She says it without any real venom. She isn't insulting him; it's just a quiet statement.] If he meant so much to you, there's no way you will ever forget him. That isn't how our minds work. Things fade, but we don't ever forget- not people who are most important to us. Not the people we give our hearts to.
