Weekend Update

I don't do this very often mainly because my weekend is comically the same. But this weekend, I had a pretty awesome time. And normally I'm all tired for Monday but for some reason I'm ready to go!

Friday: A couple of weeks back, at Sushi Night at Chez Parental Sparks, Regina (my SIL's BFF)and I were talking about something that will take too much of my time to write out. But the outcome of the conversation was a discussion about Cupcakes and how there is this place in Portland that has flavors of the day (and standards flavors as well) and wasn't that neat? Never one to pass up an oppurtunity to discuss the Baltimore Cupcake Company, I told REgina about them. Same principles, SIGNIFICANTLY closer to home. In the same conversation, we also discussed a place called Regi's in Fed Hill (a short 5 minute drive from BCC) and how it has Tattertots with Brie and Bacon as an app. Well, we got to talking over the ol' Facebook and set up a time to do Tots and Cakes! Susanne ended up joining us and we had a great time! I got home around 7:30 and then helped Shawn tidy up the house though he did most of the work. Thanks Shawn!

Saturday: We finished straightening up and went to the store to pick up food. Around 2pm people started showing up for some rockbanding and grilling. Although the list was long, the number of people present was surprisingly reasonable! We played from 3pm until 10pm!!! If you like RockBand and you weren't on my list but you'd like to be for future invites, please tell me. It was a damn good time but by 11 we were POOPED. Thank you everyone who came and brought some beer and ate our food! You guys rocked!

Sunday: Woke up and fucked around on the old computer for a bit. Walked down to the Firehouse Coffee Shop and got a bagel and a drink. Saw some funny people with Palms in the middle of the Square. They started singing and then Shawn says, "It must be Palm Sunday". He was totally right, though I didn't think it was literal. We left quickly. Back at the house, I played some WOW while Shawn did taxes. (woo, rebate!) At noon, I started calling a couple of music centers because I wanted to try out a guitar company called 'Daisy Rock'. They have smaller scaled guitars for women (and some adorable ones for kids!). I knew that I wanted an acoustic/electric because it was most universal. Daisy Rock had a Purple colored (all Daisy Rock Guitars are AWESOME looking)one called Pixie and I was hoping that someone had it available for me to take a look at. only one place had a Daisy Rock acoustic for me to view. I was a little disappointed but we went there anyway because, in the end it was only one guitar and it might not have been the one for me anyway. I'd have to try out a several before I made my decision. We traveled to Bill's Music House in CAtonsville. This place was amazing if you're interested in guitars. Probably 'good' for other instruments. If I need an electric I'll definitely be going back there for it. I tried out the Pixie guitar but it turns out that my hands are larger than most womens (something I've always known) and playing that guitar was very difficult. I should also mention that I haven't played real guitar in YEARS so it didn't sound too great. Disappointed but unphased, I looked around somemore. There was this Gibson Epiphone Acoustic with all this pretty detailing on the guitar and I was drawn to it. I played it, had immediate success with the fret, made the realization that the DR frt was too delicate for my Man Hands, and was a little relieved. The guitar itself sounded okay but it wasn't beautiful. Shawn was looking around at the drums and occassionally popping back over to see how I was doing. We were joking around about the 12-string guitars and I picked on up and played it a little bit. It sounded gorgeous. Deep, full bodied, warm tones surrounded us. Completely surprised, we realized it was a Yamaha. I should point out that I am unimpress by brand names when it comes to a guitar. I want something that sounds GOOD and is easy to play. I don't give a shit if it's an off brand. Apparently there is some small Stigma associated with the Yamaha brand but that didn't stop us. Shawn made a comment about trying to find a Yamaha Acoustic/Electric. We did find one on the floor and we picked it up tested it. What a difference. It sounded really really wonderful. All the things that I wanted and in our price range. We plugged it into the amp there and it was great! It wasn't in a color I liked but if that was they had I would have taken it. To try and cut down the story a bit (too late), we had a hard time finding that exact Model in Black. So, they found the same guitar but an early model. It was more expensive and had a few finish dings (nothing stays perfect for ever) but our Sales guy gave it to us for the price of the other guitar. So, we took it home with us!! I am the proud owner of the Yamaha CPX - 5 acoustic electric guitar pictured below!

All said and done, AWESOME WEEKEND. You'll have to hear about some of my awesome new songs. Oh, and somewhere Tracy has a pick of Lily plucking my strings and playing the drums with Shawn. PRECIOUS!
