Say you two are watching a lame Korean-subbed gag show in the middle of a Saturday night while sharing a huge cup of coke and leftover fries when he suddenly bursts into laughter. Really loud.
You stare at him wide-eyed, not knowing what exactly has made him laugh. He clenches his stomach, stops laughing, and says in a worn-out voice, “You.” He flips his hair, enabling you to see the unusual sparks in his eyes.
“Me,” you reply, unsure of what to say. He looks into your eyes for a brief moment before starting to laugh again. You grin at the sight in front of you.
Looking at the TV, you ask quietly, “That is funny?”
"No,” he replies numbly and places a gaze on the 42-inch monitor, “You are,” he chuckles, and then the laughter continues.
This is weird, you think, but you’re enjoying the moment anyway. It’s been ages since you’ve made him laugh this hard. Wait, make that smile.
He pauses for a little while to catch a breath and continues again. You see how teary his eyes are starting to get. You place a hand on his shoulder signaling him to calm down, but you’re obviously failing.
Tears start rolling down his beautiful cheekbones and he wipes them away. You try to help him but he smacks your hand away. To be honest you’re not really sure whether he’s crying because he’s laughing so hard or because he is upset.
“Oh God.” He takes a sip of the coke, not to mention he’s in the edge of choking. He sighs heavily and lets his lips curve into another smile.
“AHAHAHA.” And as there goes the fourth round, you let out a small giggle.
Minutes have passed, and you start considering the fact that he might have been really drunk yesterday and is still not in his right mind.
He flips his hair for the nth time. “ONEW!” He eventually shouts out loud; smacking your left thigh really hard while hitting the highest laughing note he can.
And the pain starts. Not because of all the smacking he did, but the pain that always comes whenever you see him crying.
He starts sobbing. He sobs and sobs and sobs and your mind goes blank. Your hands reach out for his shoulders and the next second he’s already wrapped securely in your arms.
“I’m sorry,” you hear him saying in an almost inaudible voice, “For confusing you all this time.”
You stay silent. Stunned. A little surprised. You feel sorry too, but you just can’t speak the words out.
“Be mine again, will you?” he whispers, still sobbing in your arms.
You hug him tighter in approval, and you can feel your heart twitch a little.
There are flying unicorns everywhere in all of a sudden.
