A/N: I think I butchered their characters again.
Disclaimer: I now own a copy of DW6... These two still aren't mine though.

Xiahou Dun was not a writer. He was not an avid fan of poetry, and although Cao Cao gave him his poems to read, Dun never looked over them all.

He had the privilege-or obligation, depending on his mood-of accompanying Cao Cao in his study as his lord wrote poems. Cao Cao never asked for his opinion, and never asked for prompts. Yet, to Dun, it seemed that Cao Cao enjoyed his silent company.

He walked towards Cao Cao’s study and knocked twice. “My lord, it’s me, Xiahou Dun.”

“Come in,” said a tired-sounding voice from inside the room.

Dun tried the door. “It’s locked.”

“…Ah.” A long moment passed before the door swung open. Dun went inside the room. He found Cao Cao already slumped across his desk, looking like a dead man who was not able to get a sip of water. Beside the table was a stack of crumpled paper.

“You were writing again, cousin?”

“Yes.” Cao Cao sighed. “I’m sorry. Will you do me a favor, Dun?”

“What is it?”

Cao Cao pointed to a seat near the table. “Sit. Just…stay there.”

“Isn’t that what you summoned me here for, Cao Cao?” Dun took the seat. “You look like the dead. Rest or something.”

Cao Cao righted himself. “I can’t. Unless I find a way out of this. Until then, Dun…I’m afraid you’ll have to stay there.”

Dun leaned back. He watched as Cao Cao took a well-worn pen into his hand and scribbled a few lines on paper. Cao Cao paused, frowned, then crumpled the paper and threw it away.

“Ah, it seems I am not in form today,” Cao Cao said.

Dun smirked. “That’s because you’ve locked yourself here for hours without any sort of company. You should have called me earlier.”

“You still have your duties, Dun.”

“Humph.” Dun thought for a moment. “What, you need inspiration?”

To this Cao Cao did not answer, but instead resumed writing. Dun watched him closely. There were these moments when Cao Cao was in a block, just like his sons. Dun did not fully understand their situation. Neither did he fully grasp Cao Cao’s fierce need to put his thoughts on paper.

But if there was any way he could help his lord solve this problem, he would do it. So he crossed his arms over his chest, settled himself snugly on the seat, and watched over Cao Cao.

THE END

Oh God, I went and did it. Now I have to go back to researching lab report answers. WHOEVER INVENTED SUCH THINGS SHOULD HAVE DIED A HORRIBLE DEATH.
