Tumblr appears to be the "in" thing right now, though I hate pretty much everything about it, so I don't use it myself. But there's an audience to be found there if that's what you're after.
"Minus comments" = "Minus the huge, defining feature that's the entire reason why I use it at all" = not "just like lj", imho. And having to go to great lengths to jury-rig them back in isn't something I care to do. And the user interface, the profile system, the following/friending system, the icons system, these are all quite different from livejournal. Not to mention the fact that there are no communities. There are tons of other differences. Also I don't find reposting to be a positive feature, I prefer to see content posted by those who produced it, not by random people who are getting credit for things they had nothing to do with creating.
That's just my opinion, but I can't see myself ever using it. It's the exact opposite of everything I want in a social networking site.
Yeah. This is a lot of the problem I see lately. People are reading but not having conversations anymore... and a lot of people were here for the conversations, so they're wandering off. :/

Otherwise, identical.
Oh, and you can put more code on it, I know at least one with Disqus comments, others with flash or whatnot.
