on saturday i noticed the basement carpet was soggy--a puddle pushing upward beneath my office. perhaps our biblical rainstorms of last week bubbled up from underneath, or the seep seep seep of water pooled through bricks to settle at my feet ( Read more... )

Ack! A flooding basement, that doesn't sound like fun AT ALL. Our basement seeps water in fairly regularly, but it is 100-year old stone (not concrete), so that is to be expected. We don't have anything down there that would be damaged.
Sounds like you do!
Hope it all works out OK. Or at least that you find reputable contractors-- a task indeed.
Ahhh, the joys of home-ownwership.
Yesterday we had no cold water as the pipes had frozen. Today, it seems fine. Whew.
BTW, you need to check out this website, "How the University Works:"

Yeah, our basement is very necessary: It's where my office is, and it adds much-need livable space to our 744-square foot floor plan. The more puzzling thing is where the water came in... It was very localized flooding, contained to one corner that, to this point, had been the picture of dryness. Oh well... Our rains were on a biblical scale. I'd like, as much as possible, to have some people re-waterproof the entirety of the basement, so that we can protect ourselves from future deluges... We'll see...

Thanks for the website recommendation--I'll check it out...
