it's beautiful out and i would love love love to just hop on my bike & head out for miles but responsibility (and a sore right ankle) plants me home.

so i'll dodge ben franklin in other ways, & recap:

first week of classes: ended on a thursday night with beer and relaxing with colleagues, and then homeward to pack for a 2-night backpacking trip.

Also, couple questions, do you feel wierd hanging out with the 'uppers' like your chair? I'm always afraid it will look like I'm being an ass-kisser. Although, truly, there are a few of the 'uppers' that I'd like to have a beer with.
Next, what exactly is a "free lance project" for an academic?

Also, I'm *always* in bed by 10, even on weekends, so that doesn't necessarily mean that one is "low-key," right? ;-)

I don't generally feel weird about it--at least not with certain people in the department. I get along very well with several of the senior faculty, but most of my interactions with the department as a whole are limited to department functions. i only have really "hung out" with a few of the others. i'm also not tenure track, so that might make me less likely to be perceived as an ass-kisser. who knows ( ... )
