Good lord.

Now by "large department store," do you mean a sizeable retail location, or do you mean (God forbid) a store for large people, a la Lane Bryant or "Pretty and Plump"?

Sizable, national chain. (Not a Lane Bryant-type.) Might have been a house brand ... but even then!?!...

Somebody probably thought this was a nice Maine-sounding name for socks or something. But then the "brand" kept expanding and expanding ..........

And no, as far as I know, it's not a house brand. Oh, and while I've got your attention, the reason I found your journal in the first place: Who's the Chris Butler in your interests list? Mine's a professor at Case Western. He's pretty amazing. He lectured barefoot the first day.

Chris Butler / The Waitresses dial35 February 3 2006, 03:13:13 UTC
Ever heard of an early 80's band called The Waitresses? (I Know What Boys Like was their most famous song.) Chris Butler wrote that song, and led the band. Patty Donahue was the lead singer.

Here are a couple of links:

The Waitresses

Chris Butler's site

Chris Butler solo output includes Kilopop!, a parody of 70's/80's europop (think ABBA), and The Museum Of Me, and exploration of recording styles and techniques. Both great CDs. The Kilopop! section of the website features an extensive and hilarious backstory.

Thanks for letting me know how you found my LJ.
