Well it’s been a while since I’ve written but there has been a very good reason for that, the reason being that Andy has been here! It was so good to see him it’s indescribable!
He came on Wednesday and arrived at Lübeck airport at 5:15pm. I was so excited to see him that Wednesday just passed so slowly! I arrived at the airport to meet him a little early and then got a bit worried when his plane had landed and I couldn’t see him! Soon enough though I saw his big smiling face and couldn’t stop smiling myself! We just hugged and although I didn’t want to let go, I had to because we had to get the bus back to Hamburg Hauptbahnhof. We both had perma-grins on the bus ride and both just chatted for England about anything and everything over the past three weeks. I couldn’t believe it, I had my Andy back and even though at the back of my mine I knew it was only for five days I tried not to think about it too much!
As soon as we arrived back to my house, I had to leave him as I was picking my bike up from a friend of my mentors! It’s so retro (read: old) that’s it cool! I love it! I wasn’t too long though as I couldn’t wait to take Andy out to meet everyone! As it was Wednesday, it was Stammtisch at Oma’s, so we met Harriet at Sternschanze and spent the night drinking. I had two glasses of wine and half of a beer and felt quite tipsy -lol- By around 11pm, I’d had enough of sharing and wanted my lovely boyfriend all to myself, so we went home and just chatted and caught up in more ways than one! It was so nice to fall asleep all snuggled up to someone again.
I really didn’t want to get out of bed for school the next morning but unfortunately I had to. The thought that Andy was back here though waiting for me made the lessons go quickly and it’s not as if I finished late - 1:30pm so we had the majority of the day to ourselves. I took him into the centre of Hamburg and showed him around a little and then we went to the model train museum as Andy is a pure train geek! It was absolutely amazing though, all the attention to detail that had been put in was amazing! Every so often the lights dimmed and the whole thing was lit up by thousands of tiny little lights! I would definitely recommend it!
On Thursday night we were too tired to do anything too wild so we just went bowling as it’s only a five minute walk from my house! I was gutted at first when I couldn’t figure out how to put the bumpers up and had to play with them down as I was sure I’d do crap but I managed to surprise myself and get a pretty decent score. It still wasn’t enough to beat Andy though who got something like 153! The scored were a little closer on the second game but he still beat me! He did say that he thought it was a lot easier than bowling at home though, how I don’t quite know! We were going to play pool but the pool hall was for serious players and not just people who wanted to muck about like we did! Instead we just sat in a bar and had a quiet drink.
I was supposed to have two lessons on Friday. One at 8:50am and one at 11:55am but the second one got cancelled so I had pretty much the whole day free! We went into the centre to do an open bus tour round Hamburg which half way round we realised was a bit rubbish -lol- not that Hamburg is rubbish but the tour we got just drove by with a commentator pointing at every random building. I did manage to get some good photos though. We stopped off at the harbour near the beach for a five minute break but we wanted to go for a drink so we stayed a bit longer and sat in a café. It was absolutely gorgeous weather, Harriet managed to burn herself, and felt so relaxing to just be sat drinking at the waters edge. It really did feel like we were on holiday! After the bus tour we did a spot of shopping, Harriet bought shoes, and I bought some trousers, a t-shirt and a silver top to go out in that night. I got all that for €29 which is about £19 so not bad at all! The shop, Vero Moda is fast becoming my favourite shop in Hamburg, it’s quite similar to British shops in it’s style of clothes - it reminds of Republic or Envy.
It wouldn’t be a Friday night if we didn’t go out and of course we had to show Andy Hamburg’s nightlife! Harriet came round here for a few drinks before we went out as Ute, my landlady had gone away to Denmark for the weekend do I had the house to myself. She was running late and didn’t have time to pick up any alcohol so she just picked a huge bottle of Becks up from the station and it only cost €1.40 which is about £1! We couldn’t believe it, in England if you buy anything at a station it’s about 10 times the normal price, not cheaper! We missed our train to Sternschanze where we going to eat so we went and bought more beer from the station just because it was so ridiculously cheap!
By the time we got to Sternschanze it was quite late and we ended up eating at nearly midnight! Andy was predictable and ordered steak, Harriet had chips and I had gnocchi! It was ok but by this point it was starting to feel quite tipsy and just wanted a huge burger and chips, like you do when you’re drunk!
After eating we went down to the Reeperbahn and the first stop was the Irish bar where we got Id-ed -lol- we must look 15! I guess that’s pretty flattering in some ways! We made Andy have a porno vodka but he didn’t like it! I can see why though because I think the novelty of them is starting wear off for me too! After that we went into another couple of bars before going to a club. The club we went to was called Rewind and we must’ve been pretty wasted because at the time we thought it was great but after looking at our pictures the next day we came to the conclusion that it was in fact a dive, in England, I wouldn’t even set foot in such a place! We were starting to feel quite tired by this point and mine and Harriet’s feet were absolutely killing us! So we went to McDonalds before onto a games arcade! I beat Harriet at air hockey this week! I was crap at the driving games though although I did slightly better on the motorbike one than the car one! At about 5am we finally called it a day and came home!
Obviously we didn’t do a lot on Saturday due to the late night on Friday. We met Harriet in town where we got some food and a drink at the Chinese market. We were going to stay out and go for a drink on Saturday night but none of us could be bothered! Andy and I stayed in and watched one of the many pirate DVDs which my Dad had sent.
Sunday was a really nice day, and after a big lie in, Andy and got up and went for a bike ride down to the beach for some lunch! The weather was absolutely gorgeous so we went and sat at the café we went to on Friday. It was so relaxing and really felt like we were on holiday. After that we cycled on up to Altona just for something to do really before heading home. We were meeting up with Harriet for some food on Sunday night but before that we just sat and relaxed in the garden. I miss lazy Sundays with my boyfriend!
For food on Sunday night we went to an Italian where I and Harriet ate a few weeks ago. It was really nice and pretty cheap too. I had a ham and mushroom pasta in a tomato sauce which was delicious! Afterwards we sat and had a drink in Alex’s, a bar on the Alster which was really nice. Great company and great views, what more could you want?! I ordered ice-cream which had a shot of Baileys in it. Towards the end though it was like drinking pure Baileys -lol-
Yesterday was horrible. I was dreading it coming around but I knew it would. I guess it just means less days until the whole thing is over with though. I was pretty brave Sunday night and for most of Monday and didn’t get too emotional. At the airport though, I just couldn’t hold it in any longer and had a good old cry whilst hugging Andy before he went through to departures. I can’t believe I have to wait another three weeks before seeing him again. The last time went pretty quick though so I hope this time does too.
I’ve been back at school today. I only really had one lesson though which is quite good. The first lesson I was supposed to have, was cancelled because all the pupils were in the hall voting for who they want to be Schulsprecher - kind of like a school president. I had my second lesson but the third one was cancelled as was the fourth and fifth. I waited around though as the school had a conference and my mentor advised me to stay for it. It was pretty boring though and none of it was relevant to me! I was getting quite fidgety and bored towards the end and was glad when they said we could go.
I’ve booked my flights for the October holidays! I fly back to England on the 17th October and fly back to Germany on the 24th October so I’ve got a full week back home! I really can’t wait, 21 days and I’ll be back home. It feels like I’ve been gone forever.
It’s my birthday tomorrow, I’ll be 21! I’m excited for that too! Andy brought lots of cards and a few presents so I can’t wait to open them! The English teachers at school are taking me out for lunch too and then I’m meeting Harriet and Huw for drinks later on. The real celebrations are going to be at the weekend when Leonie and Emma come and visit!
Anyway, I’m going to go now and make myself some tea because I’m rather hungry.
