As you might have seen in my previous post, LJ is asking many of us change our passwords in a "server message" that appears when we make a post, not when we first log inSomeone just pointed out to me that if the server is "reading" our passwords to see if they're too easy to crack, this means they are possibly being transferred, and perhaps even ( Read more... )

What they're doing is just mind boggling. I just don't get why they're so insistent on pissing off so many loyal users. Ugh.

Well, that "currency" thing they're doing is very popular, and brings them in cash like FaceBook's "promote post" does. They want to implement more and more things like that to get more cash ( ... )

You bring up an interesting point. You are saying that your DW and LJ passwords have to be identical to cross-post? This means that if your LJ is hacked, they will have your DW password, too. They may or may not realize it. Something to think about. If I were going to double post, I would just copy and paste each time, having a window open for each, but I've been a 'phobe about these things ever since Facebook began its descent into the dark side.

I don't think the passwords have to be the same, you just have to let DW know the LJ password so that it can x-post

I changed my LJ password and then I had to tell DW my new LJ password so I could continue to cross post.

I did figure out how to do it in the end!!

I have been getting that same server message whever I post for years. I ignore it.
I did, however, back up my LJ to a PDF on my computer yesterday -- with LJ Book -- after reading all the rumblings and grumblings and hints they plan to make "major changes" to my reading list/friend page and screw up my account. I am paid up through sometime next summer -- but there were some major hints they were messing up stuff

I don't think they're reading our passwords - I think *everyone* is getting that message no matter what their password is. One of my friends (I don't remember who...) posted that their password is a very long, very random string of letters and symbols and she STILL got that message.

That said, I'm royally pissed at LJ for endless reasons, so getting that message every time I post is just one more piece of the pie.

The links in it go to the actual LJ FAQ and pw-change pages, so pretty sure. It seems to have started happening today for everyone when they make a post- not when we sign in, though. Odd.

*smiles* I was suspicious enough to surf a bit myself, at first.

I looked at it this way: if it's not LJ, then the hackers have seamless control now, and you'd better make DAMN sure you're not using a password you use somewhere else. See?

So now, either way, they have a nice imperative sentence to enjoy.
