Yay, more has happened in my little debate on Charming...
I love how a good deal of the immortals have SHITTY grammar. Seriously, a lot of people on Nilgiri consider me intelligent because I use full sentences.
Powerful mobs like Goblin King, Rainbow dragon, etc. shoulddefinitely not be charmable. This counts for all mobs thatare very powerful, either hp-wise, or damage-wise.In my opinion, this has nothing to do with intelligence. I'm sure even players with an intelligence-level of a shoe would be able to figure out what's going on whenthey see a mob shout that it has killed a different mob. Also, people talk, and therefore even more people would do this. What's the point of leveling a warrior, or maybe a thief, whenyou can just level a mage to charm a mob, and get a tanker waystronger than any mortal? If you add a cleric to that, you have a team that is not beatable, and any mob could be killed. You also state that there is a risk involved. Again, I disagree. What could happen is that you die, go back to get youritems, and you need to start over again. You will lose experience, but getting to level 22 doesn't take that much - all you have todo is to have one dedicated mage for charming mobs. That magecan die over and over again, and even with an experience ofzero, it can be used to kill almost any mob. When you find that a mob like the goblin king is charmable, youshould rather have reported it, instead of using it. It doesn'ttake much to figure out that powerful tanks like that wouldruin the concept of the game.- Barkeman
By the way, can anyone review this for me and make sure that it's actually intelligent and that I don't come off as a lunatic?
Everyone has a different style of playing, as I think this very discussion itself illustrates. Some people may enjoy charming mobs, others don't. Therefore, the people that would attempt to charm a mob and use it as a tank would, the people that don't enjoy charming mobs wouldn't, and the people that think charming mobs is the only thing to do, would attempt to and fail miserably. When I began charming mobs, I never used them in every battle. I only used them against two or three different mobs and took care of the rest either myself or with a group. If people used charmed mobs in every single battle, it probably would ruin the concept of the game. However, seeing as how a majority of battles wouldn't really change, I personally don't think that it would be too much of a problem.
I would also just like to point out that the charmed mobs have never shouted anything when they emerged victorious from a battle. A charmed mob, in my experiences, would only shout when ordered to do so by the controlling mage. I've seen Gaza, the Elder Demon and the Red Dragon bragging about killing each other several times and it never crossed my mind that someone was charming them.
Getting a mage to a decent level for charming mobs really isn't all that easy for 90% of Nilgiri's denizens. I myself have been attempting to get my mage up to Lv22 so that he could learn Hand of Death (Not for the purpose of Charming mobs). He's not the oldest character and may be young compared to others. But getting him to the point that he's at has not been a picnic. Also, the addition of a cleric would not create an unbeatable team. I may be wrong but I don't think an unbeatable team is conceivably possible. Also, charmed mobs are extremely difficult to transport. They can't be summoned or recalled, and the mage still has to drag them through potentialy hostile areas. Dragging the Goblin King through Flayer Jungle, for example, would still be amazingly difficult. A mage charming the Goblin King could not use Non-detect, as it would prevent the King from following, and being visible would open him up to attacks from the jungle's denizens, most of whom can devour a mage (or any class for that matter) in a round or so.
Also, when I was informed that the Goblin King was charmable, I would have reported it, had I known it was wrong. There was no sign or statement anywhere in the Help files that mobs like that should not be charmable. However, isn't the matter of whether a mob is charmable or not up to the person that created that mob?
One final thing I would like to ask. After reading the replies to my original post, I am getting the idea that it is fair to be able to charm a Lv25 mob with 300 hitpoints while it is unfair to charm a Lv20 mob with 2,000? Is this a correct assumption on my part or have I misread? I am not pointing fingers or whining about continental inequality, but when I originally asked about charming mobs to use as tanks against other mobs, I was told that there would be no objections due to the fact that Jorans have done the same in the past. While certain mobs have been flagged as No-Charm in Argosaie in response to their use as tanks against other mobs, have similar measures been taken in Jora? I feel somewhat confused due to a lack of information. Please forgive my ignorance.
I would just like to say that my main problem wasn't that the mobs were given new flags. My complaint is that they were changed without notice being given. I have been told that this happened in the past with the correction of certain mobs being able to cast Hand of Death, such as the Purple Dragon in the Dragon Tower. However, I've been told of another instance where Frenzy was fixed and the immortals did inform the entire realm, much to the mortals' relief. If changes are made in the realm by immortals, I feel that it would be appropriate for the players to be notified. The players that it didn't affect would merely read it and know that it existed, going on their ways. The players that it did affect would know that it had been changed and become aware that something had been changed, saving both time and frustration on the part of the players.
