Hi, I'm really in shock today. We had this little kitten, Peque, who was around 3 months old. We took her and her brother after they were left in the vets place. Her brother died because he was full of worms and the first deworming didn't work well. So in the 2nd, all the old worms and the new ones paralized his intestines and in a few hours he died.
So we put extra care on Peque. She was a little ugly princess, all chubby and cute. She was growing strong every day. But 2 weeks ago she started walking funny. Then past week she was with stomach pain and couldn't stand up, and also, she started doing something weird, as she was trying to pull something out of her mouth. It happened that she had her femur broken. So the vet made her a support and she was doing just amazing in the first 3 days. The vet couldn't find anything on her mouth, but she kept checking her to see if she could watch something strange. But after that, 2 days ago, she started to go down, then she stopped eating and the only thing she did was to drink water. But that afternoon she was still playing. Late at night, when she disposed, it had blood on it. She made this twice. In the night was when she came down completely as she vomited, a little bit and just water. Then at 9am she vomited again and now it was brown and with blood threads. And then at 10 am she vomited again. I took her with the vet as quick as I could. I was there from 10am to 8pm in case that other medicines were needed. Peque was passing away and the vet could take her back. She spent the night at the vet's house, she told me in the morning that the cat was doing well. Then I spoke to her at 12pm and she was sad, she told me that Peque has gotten worse. Dad went with me and we arrived to the vet's place at 1:50pm.
Peque was still alive, but her belly felt weird. The vet said that the bowels stopped their movement and that she gave her an stimulant for this. In 5 minutes Peque was gone. She passed away really quick after I arrived and caressed her.
The vet asked me if she could open the body, she wanted to see what was happening. She did and she found a big ball in her intestine, it was a blood clot. Inside was a 2cm long object that was obstructing the intestine. Her stomach was completely destroyed, her esophagus was ulcered. Her liver and kidneys were perfect, that's why she responded to the medicines.
In the end, the vet determined that the object in her instestine caused an internal bleeding, as we tried to figure out what was this, she said that when she tried to clean it, the object broke. There I recalled that dad told us last sunday (when we first took her with the vet) that Peque used to smell the cat litter, he was sure that she ate some of it.
So, we don't know if the cat litter has something poisonous, but there was this object obstructing her intestines, and a natural reaction to a poison. This kitten was on a controlled room, nothing was left on the floor, nothing but her litter box. So, we're now almost positive that it was the litter what killed her.
Please, be careful with your kittens, we will never buy cat litter again, it was a very traumatic experience. I still can't believe that I won't see her again on my dad's bed walking all funny bcause she was really fat. Or that I won't take her to rehab after her broken leg had healed. Or that I won't sleep her on my chest as she did 2 days ago. Or that I won't be able to sing her name again as she bites me.
And what I regret the most is that the only pics I have of her are in my mind. I didn't take pics of her since her brother passed away. I hate myself for this.
Take lots of care of your little pets, I hate when accidents occur, they make you feel that even if you're extra careful, even the less dangerous object can kill you. I felt so weak when I saw when she stopped breathing, talking to her as the vet gave her a chest massage.
I'm missing her awfuly, we loved her as much as we possible could, we wish we could love her until she could grow older and bigger.
