When you first find yourself fortunate enough to have something you've written selected for publication, you're like that new kid in a strange school.  It's all very exciting, and terrifying at the same time.  Each publisher does things differently, each has a process they follow.

A thorough editing is the sign of a good publisher in my book, and a clear indication that they want to continue to work with you. I'd take it as a compliment - they are investing in you as their author. ♥

Just a little fun fact...
Where The Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak was originally called Where The Wild Horses Are but after his editor, the great Ursula Nordstrum, saw that he couldn't draw horses she suggested he change the title.

I would take it as a positive sign that your publisher and editor think enough of your writing to be so thorough in order to make your story even better. If they thought it was crap, they would never have accepted the manuscript in the first place. You've got loads of potential and all that red will one day turn into GREEN hopefully.
