Especially when the streets are busy and I don't know where I'm going. All the places I want are too expensive. The places I can reasonably afford are depressing.
Aw...apartment hunting is HARD. It is very very difficult to find good places you want to live in for a reasonable price, it's really a lot of timing and luck...but I hope you're able to find a place you like! Good luck!
It's much harder than I thought it was going to be. I just don't want to live in a place that I find to be depressing just driving up to it. Just gotta keep plowing through, I guess. Thanks for the good luck wishes - I'll need it! ;)
The market's bad because I'm picking the expensive places. I searched every possible rental site I could find, and I've also been driving around Bellevue just finding random places.
May help to try some of the cheaper ones. The apartment I found back in Pittsburgh was ancient and filled with old people, so it was cheaper than most, and it worked well for me. The correlation between price and quality is nowhere near as direct as one might imagine. (Also, I suppose if you accept the temporary housing, you could have time to find a house w/ roommates kind of thing, which can be good/bad, depending largely on the roommates. Craigslist or such might work.)
On the two occasions I (and Saffy, the second time) was looking for an apartment, I went to a lot of crap places before finding ones that worked. So just because there are a bunch of bad places around doesn't mean that there won't be one that works for you.

Bloody apartment people are raising my rent so I'm doing the same thing you are. :P The problem is, it seem that the whole apt market it on the rise.
On the bright side, you not being able to find an apartment so fast gives your head time to un-swell from your interviewing success. Just think, soon you'll be able to fit through the door of a new apartment!

I'm kind of surprised the market there is that bad. How are you finding places, something like move.com?

Got any other suggestions?
