This place sucks.

I'm going to break my lease. I can't live here when the person upstairs is into partying late and plays music loudly past 10 pm. I have to wake up (fairly) early and go to work. I wonder what his hours are so that I can be loud when he's trying to sleep. It wouldn't be so bad if the walls weren't paper thin. Last night I think I could hear him ( Read more... )

Ugh, I know the feeling all too well from college.

But that was incompetent school housing, surely adults can handle it better... Have you talked to the apartment management / looked at the lease? There's often a noise clause that says if you get some number of complaints, it's cause for eviction. Plus, if you're being bothered by it, chances are there are others bothered by it, too.

I haven't talked to the apartment management yet, but I did look at the lease about a noise clause. There is one, but it doesn't specify hours or consequences for violating the clause. It says:

Resident agrees not to harass, annoy, vex or endanger any other person within the Property, or to create any nuisance, or disturb the peace and quiet of any other person or commit waste in or about the Premises or Property.

Also, even when he's just walking around normally I can hear him. The floorboards are really squeaky and the walls are paper thin. I can hear everyone else around me too. I'm sure that others can't hear the squeaky floors because I'm right below him, but I heard someone go over and knock on his door last night to complain about the loud music.

Anyway, it's really the poor construction of the building that makes it impossible to live here.
