Last weekend I moved into a new house with my friend. We're living in Renton, which is about 17 miles south of Seattle. It's a new construction home, so we're the first people to live in it. We have 4 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, and a 2-car garage (that really only fits 1.5 cars). It's a very nice house, and I actually like coming home now.
It took us two full days to move our stuff; it was ambitious to think we could move two apartments in one day. Last weekend, most of our stuff was crammed into the garage. But over the past week we've managed to get a majority of our things into the house. My bedroom is set up, his bedroom is set up, and we've started to unload stuff into the office and the music room. I still need to call about a professional piano mover. The living room is halfway set up, though we're lacking a couch. And the kitchen is in dire need of attention. We've been eating fast food all week because we haven't unpacked any dishes yet.
We both took Thursday off from work so that we could sod our backyard. Boy, was that a workout! We had to rake the straw off the surface, remove large rocks, till the ground, remove more rocks, spread out the compost, till the ground with compost, flatten the ground with a lawn roller, make sure the ground was even, spread fertilizer, and then lay out the sod. We were supposed to go over the sod with the lawn roller, but we ran out of time. We started at 9 am and didn't finish until 9 pm.
Today I got home from work early to let the blinds guy into the house. We haven't had blinds on our windows all week! Now that they're up, I can finally watch scary movies without worrying about whether or not something's lurking in the backyard. And I can shower/dress without worrying about peeping toms! After the blinds guy left, I started working on moving the leftover compost from our driveway to the backyard. It's such an eyesore, and I feel really bad about how dirty our driveway is right now. I'm not done yet, but I plan to finish it tomorrow.
Lauren and Patrick came over to help and hang out. We had a wonderful dinner at a Lebanese restaurant. Good food + good company = good times. After dinner we got to work finishing up the lawn. Thanks so much to Patrick for helping me out with that. While I shoveled compost, Patrick cut the edges of the sod to make it even all the way around. Then we watered the lawn, though only enough to keep it slightly moist until I have a chance to really water it tomorrow during the day.
I can't wait to get the whole house in order and to get settled in. It's so much work unpacking and setting up house, especially when there isn't enough time in a day to do everything. I wish I could take a week off from work and just unpack and do all the things that need to be done. But I guess I'll just have to settle for the evenings after work and the weekends.
It's almost time for bed -- I'm so tired and my body is in absolute pain.
Pictures soon!
