It's been awhile since I posted anything substantial.
Rome was awesome! I've already posted a link to my website with pictures, so as soon as I finish my blog I'll post a link to that as well.
Work is good. It's work. I'm writing for two products with concurrent schedules/deadlines, so I've been busy trying to juggle the workload. My product team recently merged with two others to provide services as a whole (ecommerce, hosting, and ISP), so we'll see how the reorg goes. One thing that I've been wondering about is how it feels to work on consumer products with external customers. I've always worked on the enterprise side, and I wonder if the pace is faster, the stress levels higher, and the workload demands greater on the consumer side.
This past weekend I saw the movie 300. It was so good! It was very stylized and beautifully done. The story was good, moved at a steady pace, and had comedic elements thrown in. There were also morbid and grotesque things, which was perfect me. It was based on Frank Miller's graphic novel and had a similar feel to Sin City, which was also based on a Frank Miller graphic novel. The icing on the cake was that I got to see it for free, though I would gladly pay to see it again.
Other than that, I’ve been working on stuff around the house. I’m trying to get rid of a lot of stuff because I figure the things I keep in storage aren’t things I actually need to keep. It just takes up space, and it’ll be harder to move all that stuff later on. So I’m doing spring cleaning a bit early this year. I love getting rid of things! (I love buying things too.)
A couple of weeks ago I participated in a squash tournament. That was pretty fun, but very challenging and at times demoralizing. Chris is part of a club where he plays squash pretty regularly. He encouraged me to participate in the tournament, because he and I sometimes play on the weekends. I’m not terrible, but the people who were in the tournament had been playing for 10+ years. I’ve played maybe a dozen or so times!
My older brother proposed to his girlfriend of 5+ years. He proposed to her on a gondola in Las Vegas, and she was so surprised. She had no idea! So I’m very excited for both of them. They were supposed to have an engagement party in April, but it was postponed to May because my maternal grandpa passed away just a month ago. So I’m going to fly to San Jose the first weekend of May to attend their engagement party. I can't wait!
I'm also looking forward to going to the San Juan Islands when the weather warms up. I think we'll take either the seaplane or the ferry. I'm excited about exploring the island and maybe going kayaking or renting mopeds. We're not sure yet, but it'll be a fun day trip and I will have tons of pictures from that as well.
The end.
Okay, back to work...
