I even signed up for netflix so I could watch it on their instant-watch system, because right now the entire show is up on their site (I know, I didn't have netflix until now, WELCOME TO THE MODERN AGE, DIANA). So when I heard that Sam Raimi was doing the tv series - as much as I dug Xena and Hercules back in the 90's - my first reaction was of undisguised horror. So I waited...and waited...and waited...then caved and downloaded the first ep. Just to see.
And it's good.
Not the BEST thing ever - but I've kept watching. I'm most of the way through the first season. My reaction to Zedd was similar to yours, that actor can do CREEPY things with his face. And he is a little Cookie Monster. :-/
The whole thing with the Confessor power overwhelming Richard and the tenuous logic the show's writers employ is a direct result of exactly that - the writing is for the show. I agree that the show is not the best, but I still like it. And it gives me lotr fandom flashbacks being so obviously New Zealand-y, lol. I've never read any of the books, but maybe I will now.
