I raced home from doing work at school late for Bill O'Reilly on the daily show?? Fuck. What a waste of time. I could have done another half hour of work

I am not a Bill O'Reilly fan at all...not even close. But I enjoyed the start of the interview when Stewart gave him a teddy bear and cocoa. That was funny.
Why are you getting the loans reduced? I assume it has something to do with teaching...
Yeah, since I'm a teacher in a low income school and I teach high-needs subject area (math), I qualify for a state of texas program that gives me $5k/yr off, for up to 4 years. It's great! Wee!
Almost makes up for not having a professional salary... almost.
I have heard of programs where special ed teachers often get their loans reduced as well. After being a para-pro for the last 2 1/2 months, I am considering checking that out for my after-Korea plans.
If that fails, or I just don't have the interest, I'll probably go for English and History...and maybe journalism and business too. Likely not "high-needs" but the diversity would help.
This site here is the biggie in terms of federal forgiveness. However, I don't qualify for any of those, because i had loans out before 1998. There weren't any federal programs in place for a few years, I think from '91 to '98, which is when I began my education.
this is another site that lists other programs you may qualify for, and there are other links in both of those that describe state-specific and loan-specific forgiveness programs.
Honestly, though, if you start teaching more than likely someone in your HR dept. will know which programs you can apply for. People here are always looking out for it, and I got 3 emails regarding the one I applied for last spring.
Ah, fun times. Oh, for an education that was affordable!
