08: Dawn
Dale had never been an early riser before he met Stacey.
She liked to get up with the sun and go to bed with the chickens. He preferred the owl approach to sleep. Still, when he felt her warmth disappear, he woke up and got out of bed to join her.
She’d gone about her routine awkwardly at first, trying to work around him. But as time passed, she started to bring him into the mix, sending him for the sugar, or chatting idly, until he was so incorporated that she couldn’t see herself extricating him.
Once she asked him why he tortured himself. He had replied that, “’S no torture with you,” and fallen asleep at the table.
She never asked again, just rolled her eyes and let him sleep.
