Summary: Chase has broken his jaw.
"Victor, our son has broken his jaw."
"Yes, Janet. I am aware of this."
Chase glared at them.
"Victor, our son has broken his jaw."
"Yes, Janet. You’ve said."
Chase made a noise.
"What’s that, Chase? Were you telling us you don’t like the wire?" Janet asked sarcastically. "Well, maybe next time you break your jaw, the doctors will be so kind as to let it dangle."
Chase winced.
"Janet, that was not kind."
"No, it was not."
Victor sighed and tried to soothe his wife.
"You, sir, may not play that horrible game any more," she informed her son.
He almost fell out of his chair.
"Well, you already know how I feel about it," Victor said. "But let’s not fight at the table. It’ll upset his jaw and we’ll just have to go back to the hospital."
They were silent for a long moment.
"Victor, our son has broken his jaw."
"Janet, go play with your toys."
She got up and started out of the room. "Fine. But just you remember: He’s broken his jaw and whoever stays with him has to puree his food."
She stormed out of the kitchen and Victor regretted his suggestion thoroughly.
"I don’t see why," he commented. "Did you break your hand, too."
Chase looked embarrassed and held up one bandaged hand.
"Good God. I do not want to see the hospital bills."
