For years Haagen-Dazs has made and sold green tea flavored ice cream in Japan and the rest of Asia. For some reason they've never marketed it in the US. Until now! The brand I've usually been getting here at the asian groceries that's decent is Maeda-En. But none of that even touches the HD creamy butterfat mouthfeel.

When I toured the Ben & Jerry's factory (gaining about 20 lbs in the process), they said they didn't sell green tea ice cream in the states because people here didn't like it in the best forumlations, which is lower sugar and whatnot. So, what sold really well in Asia didn't sell in the states at all. I think tastes have been changing over the last ten years, though.
I keep finding green tea that has been mixed with other stuff, like jasmine. Not as good.

Green tea especially tastes like chocolate when you've drinking Godiva White Chocolate Liqueur that has been spiked with matcha powder. Tpup and I had fun trying that little home experiment out. Hard to get it to mix thoroughly without clumping with little air pockets. I think next time I'll beat the crap out of it with a blender, and then let it steep/infuse for a few days.
Jasmine green tea is nice, as long as it's regular plain green tea. Matcha green tea wouldn't mix well with that. *wrinkles nose*
