Bugger.

[ A pause because, oh, yes, that would be the button that turns the blasted thing on. Well... we can only hope that there is a delay between Yusuf's annoyed mouthing off at the little piece of technology and it actually turning on. He's holding it much too close to his mouth and, as such, his voice is unaccountably loud for the calm way he ( Read more... )

I hear you.

[ Pause. Briefly Eames wonders if this is one of those days where they acquire some visitors - but the city hasn't suddenly become so overcrowded, and it seems rather late for it. The network has also been rather quiet on that front, so he isn't sure what to make of this particular voice - whether it be Yusuf, true, or someone else entirely, which is always the possibility. Let's not forget a certain Jim Hawkins, after all. ]

[ And then, there is Eames' voice coming from the little device with too few buttons-- all very unhelpfully marked, mind. Yusuf's face scrunches up in something that might be annoyance but is probably just confusion. Why would he be down in a dream with Eames? Admittedly, he doesn't exactly remember how he got here... but... ]

Eames, is that you?

[ Yusuf's voice sounds considerably further away after a bit of rustling, the microphone smothered against his palm. ]

Yusuf, man of mine, turn your device about, I can hardly hear you.

[ Well, that gets one question out of the way, at least - but with that out of the way, he has plenty more to occupy the space left behind. ]

Did you just-- arrive?

Turn it-?

Ah, yes. Is that better?

[ But, before Eames can think to answer, Yusuf catches sight of the carousel again and is reminded that he has very obviously been dreamt into the outskirts of some dream that he is not walking through. He's no need for that kind of madness. ]

Oi, what is this dreaming me away from the rest of you lot? Getting on the bad side of the man with the chemicals is hardly the wisest option!

[ That... sounds like a child.

Buggering bugger. ]

Hi there, ah, [ Yusuf looks at the device, wondering how he's supposed to figure anything out with a small child on the other end of this... mobile? Whatever this is. ]

Well it's just I haven't the foggiest of what... I'm calling you on. Or who you are, for that matter.

[A child yes but cursed. She's really an adult. Usually. Well at least she's adult sized usually.]

We ought to have a fancy sort of name for it but it's just a device 'far as I know. Does video, text and voice. Public and private, if you know how to make it private.

I'm Rose Tyler.

[ Well, we can all be like that at times, can't we? They'll cross that confusing bridge when they comes to it though. ]

Ah, alright. Device. [ So much for it being a mobile-- at least this means Yusuf is not nearly as inept as he was beginning to feel. ]

Nice to meet you Miss Rose. My name is Yusuf, would you mind finding an adult to put on the mobi- er, device?

Oh. Hello! I am sorry to bother you, this ah, is not my usual mobile...

Or... [ Wait... a... moment.... ] my usual place of residence, for that matter...

Oh yeah, that happens. That's yours, it's called your Device and it takes movies and pictures and makes phone calls. I know you said 'mobile' so you must know about the calls thing but some people come from times where phones don't take pictures so it's weird to them that the one thing can do all that stuff.

Oh! And this is The City. You're stuck here.

[ Worried for a moment that he's somehow turned the camera on (he has a rather unfortunate reputation of doing that with his mobile, hours and hours of footage of the inside of his pocket- quite thrilling) Yusuf checks the thing.

Before remembering that he hasn't the slightest as to how it works or how he's even made this call. However, this one seems full of answers and ready to divulge them all at once, so he listens.

Until. ]

Just a moment please, why would I be stuck here? [ Fabulous, he's stuck in a forceful subconscious. ]

We can hear you. Would you be so kind as to not yell into your device?

[All good-natured teasing, naturally. And as if she had any sodding clue what her device even was when she first got here.]

Oh. [ A pause, placing the accent on the other end as something familiar but not the voice by any means. ]

Very sorry. Not quite sure if I am using this mobile correctly-- oh, how rude of me. I do not know how I dialed you. Very sorry!

You didn't, er, dial me. You're sort of broadcasting to the entire network. That's what these things like to do, apparently-it's a rather annoying habit of theirs.

Oh.

Bugger.

...Oh!

Well. Horrid first impression. [ A pause, Yusuf looking around as if he might see speakerphones blaring his apologies to the world. But, no. It's just him and his little silver... device. ] I suppose I could turn it off... if I could find that button.

Is there a way to stop bothering everyone?
