[ Everyone knows Yusuf's place. Of course, it isn't actually Yusuf's place, in that the title and deed aren't in his name, nor does the sign above the shop say anything about the confectioneer inside-- but it is essentially Yusuf's place in every other way that matters. When the owner's wife fell sick, Yusuf took over and slowly made the changes ( Read more... )

[ Haruhi ducks her head in first before actually entering. Dressed as always in attire too big for her and thus that leaves her with the widely-perceived 'reality' of being a boy (something she doesn't argue because she doesn't you know, care) she steps to the counter, peering at the selection, trying to decide what her young friend Luca would like best. The shop is quite full as usual - near to bustling and she's in no hurry so she doesn't vie for any help just yet.

Whenever she does spot Mister Nebhrajani however, she inclines her head politely, a slight smile there. Most people call him Mister Yusuf because it's easier for them, but she tends toward his actual last name; it seems more polite. ]

[ There is a couple squashed in by the wall and the jukebox (the thing has been on all day, Yusuf is thinking it might just be time for it to "break") who are intent on doing more than just playing footsies, and really, Yusuf doesn't get paid enough to deal with all these hormones. He gives them a stern look and makes the move. apart. motion with his hands, ice cream mixer (a flat, metal device that he uses to fold and scoop the ice cream with) in one hand and madeline in the other.

Haruhi never makes much noise, or fuss for that matter, and it is only because Yusuf runs a customer-reliant shop that he even spots him over by the stack of menus (useless really, as he's got a new flavor every week). He puts the scoop down and makes his way over to the boy with the delicate features. He can't remember what he picked the madeline up for, no one seems to be missing anything, so he offers it to Haruhi. ] Would you like to try a madeline before you decide on today's flavor?

[ It's funny, Haruhi's never been big on sweets but madelines have a subtler quality to them, spongy and not overly sugared, so she accepts, smiling. ] Thanks. [ After chewing a bite - a nibble really, as she could in theory just shove the whole thing into her mouth if she wanted - she casts a dry glance over at the couple that has indeed separated to opposite sides of a table, though the way they're making eyes at each other suggests exactly how long that's going to last. She doesn't shrug but it seems inherent in her expression, as if to note that it's not any of her business but if it was she would roll her eyes. Instead she looks at the flavor assortment again. ] Business looks good. [ It's not politeness for the sake of politeness; Haruhi doesn't really do that. It's just an honest observation in that it must be a good thing for him, and in her tone, she's glad for him.

She's always been of the mind that he seems nice and practical. ]

Any time, [ Yusuf assures, and they both know that this much is true. Yusuf manages the shop well enough, knows the worth of a nickel and such, as proper businessmen do, but he's also got a soft spot for his repeat customers. The ones that never cause him any trouble, never come in looking to kick the juke box or drop their cigarette butts on the sidewalk outside of his parlor; those are the ones that get the special treatment. The madelines he chalks up to 'lost inventory' and those extra ounces of ice cream he piles on as a top-off. Haruhi is a good kid, always polite if not a bit on the reserved side.

Yusuf gives him a nod. ] Yup, apparently there is some big band in town? Would you happen to know anything about it?

[Shira stalks in like a man on a mission. He's got his tattered robe around him to conceal his arms. Nevermind how seriously out of place he looks in the parlor. His English is rough but fluent.]

Got shakes?

All kinds, sir. Those are the newest creations, [ Yusuf points to the chalkboard that has more smears on it than is entirely professional and then plucks a paper menu from the apron tied around his waist. ] Or if you would prefer something a little more tame, feel free to take a look at the menu.

[Oh hey! It's Stephen Stills, bassist of the semi-successful band The Clocks. He looks slightly like death, and plonks himself on a bar, slouching all the way to the counter.]

I need something quite chocolaty.

[ Yusuf isn't into music all that much, although everyone in his parlor seems to be. He isn't going to be a happy camper if there is a riot over a bassist in his parlor, so everyone better keep their poodle skirts and leather pants about them! ]

I think I can oblige. Would you like something edible or more on the sippable side of things?

[He slouches a little further down the counter.]

Surprise me.

[ Odd behavior for a man in an ice cream shop, but Yusuf doesn't mention it. Instead he picks up the ice cream scoop and waggles it in his hand. ]

Alright, but you will have to give me some direction. Do you have consistency issues? Amenable to chunks of things in your ice cream? Any allergies I should know of?
