People, congratulate (?) me. On November 12, 2007, I met
Park Shin Yang, a famous Korean actor.
Park Shin Yang came to the University of Georgia to talk about his acting career basically.
He started off saying that he comes from a family of architects and engineers. He was having doubts about going into the architecture field when a friend suggested that they become actors. Park Shin Yang took this seriously and decided to become an actor.
He mentioned that he took voice lessons and that he kept practicing for 10 years. Maybe his soothing voice is a result of this training.
There were some funny parts during the lecture. The stories of him in a Buddhist temple were funny. Also, the translator (she is a professor at UGA) inserted some funny comments here and there.
He also talked about the time he went to Thailand and how he had a near-death experience. He almost drowned, but because he had help he lived. Park Shin Yang said that this experience changed his views on life.
He talked a little about his wife and love. The love part I did not really get. But it was interesting.
At the end, he said that he hopes the lecture was useful, thanked people for inviting him, etc.
So, OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG!!! I sat right in the middle of second row which was practically the first row since there were no chairs in front of me. So basically, I was literally about 6 feet away from Park Shin Yang. At first, I was stunned by his aura. Towards the end of the lecture, he felt like a real person, not just a celebrity. He seemed really nice and humble.
He looks exactly as he does on TV. He sounds the same too. AHH
Actually, I saw him closer than 6 feet. It was more like 2 feet. Before the lecture, the professor who was going to translate for him was giving the audience some background info on him. During this time, he walked over to where I was sitting and sat about 2 or 3 feet away from me. He was sitting directly in front of a friend of mine. I wish I had taken pictures of him when he was sitting in front of us, but I didn't. I'm so stupid. *SIGH*
But the best part is that he smiled at me. I repeat, AT ME. So before the lecture began, he was standing at the podium being a stoic. He was looking around the room, and I couldn't take my eyes off of him. Well, our eyes met and I was thinking in my mind "OMG, is he looking at me?" About two or three seconds pass and we are still looking at each other. And then he smiled. Then he went back to his stoic mode. ASDFJKLASDFJKL I was so happy. And I totally did not imagine this because at least two people noticed that he smiled at me.
I have more pictures and a video recorded along with some sound files. But I will not post them here. I think that one picture is enough. And sadly, that is the best picture I have of him because all the pictures turned out to be blurry. :[
