Books, eh?

The Unfettered Mind by Takuan Soho. This one's letters Takuan wrote to Yagu Munenori(I think, it might be one of the others) on swordsmanship, but he makes some interesting points about religion.

Zen Mind, Beginners Mind by Shunryu Suzuki. This is a series of Suzuki roshi's lectures transcribed by his students.

The Tao of Pooh a work on taoism that uses Winnie the Pooh as an example. Better than it sounds.

that's all I can think about for now, but there's probably more.

Have you ever read Dogen's Shobogenzo? From what I read, I've come to the conclusion that it's pretty much THE Buddhist work, according to, you know, a couple guys. You know, the Sutras and all that stuff. That's the thing, though- you know more about this than I do. Is it worth seeking out and drudging through, you think?

I haven't read it, but just about everything I've read references it in some way or another, so I gather it's fairly important.

If you can't find Shobogenzo, look for "Moon in a Dewdrop". It's a smaller collection (20 of 95) of the writings in Shobogenzo.

Dropping Ashes on the Buddha by Segung Sahn has had many people speaking praise, although the little I read wasn't exactly enthralling.

Just my input for the day.
