There is a story about Zhuangzi. In reality, there are many stories about Zhuangzi, but this one is significant in this context. It is not a koan, but it bears some superficial similarities. A close relative of Zhuangzi's died. The custom at this time in China was for a 27 month period of mourning, involving total withdrawal from the world after the death of a relative. A friend/rival of Zhuanzi visited Zhuangzi's home to console him, but instead of a grief-stricken, silent Zhuangzi the friend saw Zhuanzi sitting on the floor in his kitchen, banging on a pot and singing in a loud voice.
