My dad is still that wonderfully stubborn old man.  He's fighting, and for a while now, he leveled out, making him perfectly coherent.  He's drugged up to keep the pain down, so it takes him a bit longer to formulate what he's going to say, but he's none the less aware.  He's smiling, cracking little jokes, and wanted to personally thank people for ( Read more... )

We are so happy that Dick is in good spirits and able to talk with you! Dick has always been an excellent communicator and I think that would be worse if he were not able to respond.

We are all thinking of you Dick, Robin, Amir, and Tuni!

Love,
Mike, kathy, Melissa, Adam, Tiger, and Mouse (a new kitten)

We're so glad that Dick is as comfortable as can be and enjoying the stories. They are fun to hear. It's amazing how the silliest things we do in life are the things people remember and enjoy sharing with others - we'll have to keep that in mind! You're all constantly in our thoughts and in our prayers.

We love you all very much,
Greg, Audrey, Jarrod and Ryan

What a wonderful life anonymous June 19 2006, 02:49:50 UTC
I've enjoyed reading all the comments on this site. The comments make it apparent that your life is cherished by so many different people. I think of how great it is to have a wonderful life like that, but it only makes me more sad that it has to end.

I wanted to share with everyone the water fights (were they really "fights?") we used to have when we were younger. Unsuspectingly getting water doused while mowing the lawn, etc. You were so playful for the elder dad across the street, yet I never thought it strange. You must have been much more than that to me. Then, years later you and your family have come to support me and mine, even coming to stay with us in Seattle. I enjoyed our time together then, too. Thank you for being special in my life, too.

Tuni, Robin, and Amir, our families' thoughts and prayers are with you, too.

Dick. This is Sheila. As usual, you have to be different. Who would have guessed that you would be in London at a time like this! and why are you in London? because as usual, you were off to have a good time. I love you for that. I have watched you have fun with your boys and my boys with total abandon. Remember you and Aaron carried on a summer long water fight? He still thinks he won because he sneaked up behind you while you were running the lawn mower. Speaking of grass, you took the kids to the movies first, instead of cutting the lawn. The next weeking you would do something else fun with the kids instead of cutting the lawn. I always wished my Dad had been there for me like that. It is no wonder you are in foregn country laughing with your children. You always did. You taught me to be more playful, Dick and I love you for that. On a serious note, I do not want you to leave us. I want you to stay and teach us how to play some more. Because I love you I also do not want you to suffer. I hope you do not have one more moment of ( ... )

I won't apollogize for broadcasting misdeeds - after all, Dick is best known for the joking, pranking, fun-loving guy that we all know and love.

A few people have mentioned water baloon fights, sledding in the backyard and a host of other fun happy memories for me too. I haven't seen anyone write about the card shark he is! I can't tell you how many nights he stayed up with us kids until the wee hours of the morning!
