continued stability, exploring options

Dad was good today, he is continuing to be able to converse regularly with us, with some frequent naps obviously.  He has been increasingly frustrated with the hospital food. It is no secret that Dad LOVES food and to say he has become cynical towards the hospital meals would be an understatement. Sanjeev, if you read this.... my dads response to ( Read more... )

Dick's lust for life anonymous June 23 2006, 02:13:15 UTC
Wow. I'm soooo impressed. Can't keep a good man down, at least not for long, especially if he's got access to McDonald's and pizza, right?! I sure can understand his and all of your strong desire to be back home. It sure would be wonderful for us back here to have a chance to see and talk with him, as you have. I can see all of us gathered at the airfield as his helicopter lands! I don't know if you realize it, Amir, but ever since you and Robin arrived on the scene there's been steady improvement in your Dad's condition, physical as well as emotional. How's your mom doing?
We are thinking about all of you 24/7. BTW, do you know if our (Fred's & my) letter(s) made it to Robin's e-mail address? We were in Chicago for a family wedding, staying at a niece's and using her computer when we sent it. Let us know if it DIDN'T get there and we will re-send it.
Thanks. Love to you all, Roz

Wanting better food is always a good thing...makes me realize that the food over there must really be boring. I realize that from reading your updates, just how much the love and nurture from you and Robin, gives your Dad peace and strenght. It would be wonderful for you all, if coming back to the States was an option.
Please tell both you mom and dad that Greg and i think of you all daily , we send you love, and ongoing strength . Marleen

Hi from Jenni and George anonymous June 23 2006, 14:33:43 UTC
Last night when I arrived home from work at 9 pm I went outside and sat by the pond and decided to try direct communication with all of you via our mutual love for Meyer Lake. I said to myself, I need a sign that our spirits are connecting with each other. All of a sudden I spy a small frog swimming in the pond, the first ever that I have seen, and I said to myself...maybe. I sat there meditating a little longer and all the fish came over near me and just kind of hung out. I thought Could it be? Then a fire fly flew by and lit up just as it was in front of me. I decided that maybe you were all feeling the peace that I was feeling at that moment........Much as I perfer pond messaging I decided to do the sensible thing and send this message the old fashioned way!(by computer ( ... )

Hospital bed update anonymous June 23 2006, 18:49:36 UTC
Gilli took delivery of the semi-electric bed on June 21st, but it was missing the parts needed to raise the bed. The next day I accepted delivery of these parts which were installed in my presence. An instruction manual is supposed to come with the bed, but the supply company, Apria, didn't provide it on either delivery. If you have any trouble working the bed, call me and I'll come out for a demonstration.
You'll need mattress pads for underneath the bottom sheet and disposable bed pads as well. A useful device is a mechanical pressure pad which helps prevent bedsores. This was a big help to my Mom when she was in hospice. Hopefully, the hospice nurses will advise you on all the comfort care products available.
Hoping for an easy and uneventful trip back home,
Susan Feldstein
