These days, it took Jason about twenty minutes to get all of his clothes on properly, what with the buttons and straps and millions of pieces. If he'd wanted to go to any of those fancy dress parties, he'd probably have had to grovel at Sookie's feet until she helped him. A preview of old age, he worried ( Read more... )

Fred has spent the better part of the month trying to figure out Victorian clothing. It would have been one thing if she'd been able to prepare for the month: she could have read up on corsets and whalebone and under petticoats and hoop skirts...

After her first try at it, Fred almost said to hell with it and wished she could just go back to wearing the Pylean equivalent of a burlap sack. But she'd figured out that the men's clothes were a lot easier than the women's stuff, and has mostly stuck to that since. Until today, at least.

She found the dress in the clothes box about a week ago, and kept it, not too sure just where or when or even if she'd wear it, but today she's taken the crazy amount of time it takes to put it on to... well, put it on. Because it's kind of been a long time since she had any kind of date, and she really doesn't want to screw it up. It's not like they're not on an island full of pretty girls that Jason can choose from ( ... )

"Fred." He meant to be cool about it all, but Jason wasn't really prepared for the sight of her, all gussied up and in a corset that did funny things to his chest. Do not get a boner in these pants. There's no quick way out of them.

"You look beautiful," he said, figuring it was good that thoughts stayed inside his head here. "I mean it. Do you got a coat or something? I was thinking we'd go outside."

Jason held out his arm. "You ready?"

So maybe there's a lot that Fred doesn't like all that much about the way the island has changed, but she's pretty sure that the fact that it's marginally responsible for Jason in a fancy Victorian get-up isn't one of them at all. Not that she isn't a fan of his normal island attire- and she'd have to be just plain dumb not to notice all the times when he didn't wear a shirt- but this is a nice change.

"Thanks," she replies, dipping her head for a second as she tries not to blush, "Mostly, I'm just lucky I figured out how everything works. Do you know how many layers people wore back then? It's like just getting dressed is some kind of wacky ritual. Oh! Hold on a second."

She disappears into the apartment for a moment, and when she emerges, she's wearing a coat.

"Okay, now I'm ready." Fred says, and takes his arm. If they're gonna be fancy about everything, then she's gonna play the part.
