There is a lot of preparation before that eight minutes, but the actual writing of the piece only lasts for eight minutes and all I ask my students to do is keep their pen moving in one way or another for the whole eight minutes,

I feel that, it's been the same with writing a screenplay for me --the structure, the fractal nature. I also feel that about the valuable objects bit. I take better pictures because of digital cameras, and write only in cheap notebooks.
